Colossians: Week 1

Week 1: A brief description of the writer, reason and location of the book:
The Book of Colossians was written by the Apostle Paul while he was a prisoner of Rome between 60 and 63 A.D. Colossians was written as a letter to be read to the Colossian Church and the neighboring Church at Laodicea. It is unclear whether Paul ever visited the Church in person but the Word makes it clear that he loved them dearly. Colossae was located along the Lycus river in the region of Phrygia in the area of modern day Turkey. Paul wrote the book to address the heresy that made its way into the Church. This heresy not only questioned the deity of Christ but encouraged mysticism and the worship of Angels. Philosophies of men were being regarded rather than the Word of God.
